Obituary for Doreen Margaret Scott

In loving memory of Doreen Scott, 95, who passed away peacefully on December 1, 2019 at Pioneer Manor with her family by her side. Much loved daughter of David Scott and Alice (nee Foster). Sister of Cecil, Raymond (Marj Edgar) and Os (Dorothy), all predeceased. Beloved wife of William Scott (predeceased 1984).
Born in Port Colborne, Ontario, on October 10, 1924, Doreen moved to Sudbury, Ontario, as an infant and spent her life on the shores of Lake Ramsey. At the age of 17, she worked in the offices of Frood Mine and later at Bell Telephone, CP Rail, and Sudbury Boat and Canoe with Bill. She married Bill in 1946, and they shared 39 years of marriage until he passed away at age 59.
Doreen and Bill had two daughters - Lynn (Jim Gainer) and Brenda (Gary Bouchard). Treasured Nanny to Shelley Gainer (Tim Bradford), Angie Gainer (Dan Labonte), Sarah Bouchard (Jeffrey Shrigley), and Matt Bouchard (Tiffany St. Jacques) and GG to her great grandchildren Sophia and Emmett. Second mother and dear friend to Dr. Robert Masih. Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, and her large circle of friends. Lucky to find love a second time, Doreen shared a loving relationship with Dr. George Koski for five years until his death in 2007 and was grateful for time spent with his children Chris (Eva), Lisa (Marshall), Jordy (Jennifer) and David, as well as his grandchildren, sister Helen Koski, and brother Allan Paananen.
Doreen was a member of the Sudbury Canoe Club and, in the 1940s, she would paddle the giant war canoe every evening with her brothers Cecil and Ray. An avid tennis fan, bridge player, member of the IODE, and social butterfly, Doreen travelled the world and loved spending her winters in Florida. Her smile, wit, grace, and kindness will be missed by everyone whose lives she touched.
Special thanks to her LHIN home caregivers Donna and Rosita and heartfelt thanks to the staff at Pioneer Manor ("York" wing) for their care and kindness.
Resting at the Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home (233 Larch Street, Sudbury) on Friday, December 6 from 4 to 7 p.m. A celebration of her life will take place on Saturday, December 7 at 2 p.m. at St. Andrew's United Church (111 Larch Street). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Crohn's and Colitis Canada, St. Andrew's United Church (William C. Scott Fund) or to a charity of your choice.
