Obituary for Taimi Hovila (Rintala)

In loving memory of Taimi Hovila, 91 years, peacefully June 14th, 2019, at Health Sciences North. Predeceased by husbands Yrjö Tasanko in 1960 and Olli Hovila in 2004. Survived by brother Heikki Rintala of Finland, Inkeri Lohikoski of Sweden and sister-in-law Anna Hyvärinen of Finland and nieces and nephews in Finland and Sweden. Loving mother of Art Tasanko (Rose Trochimchuk), Irma Laporte (Jack), Henry Tasanko (Liisa), Satu Donnelly (Steve) and Juha Hovila. Lovingly remembered by grandchildren Tammy Skomorowski (Dan Plourde), Laurie Tasanko (Andy Zoschke), Lee-Ann Adams (John), Jason Tasanko (Anita), Jessica Laporte (Marc Lafantaisie), Derek Laporte (April), Erika Tasanko (Kirby Punt), Adam Tasanko (Rebecca Pereira), Marika Donnelly and Timo Donnelly (Alanna Stuart). Much loved mummi and mummu of 9 great grandchildren.

Taimi was born in Kauhajoki, Finland and immigrated to Canada in 1957, settling in South Porcupine. She was an active member of New Hope Lutheran Church after moving to Sudbury in 2004, and previously St. John's Lutheran Church in South Porcupine. She was an accomplished seamstress always helping friends with alterations and knitting socks for everyone. She loved flowers and was an avid gardener with the greenest of thumbs. Her pulla was the best ever. Mom was the epitome of Finnish SISU, never giving up, possessing that grit and determination in the face of adversity.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to New Hope Lutheran Church in Sudbury, or the Kulta-Koti (Finnish Seniors' Home) in South Porcupine.
