Obituary for Douglas Francis Thom

Douglas “Frank” Thom
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Douglas (Frank) Thom on Friday, August 7, 2020, at the age of 89 in Sudbury, where he was born and raised. Beloved husband of 62 years of Grace Thom (nee Evans) and caring father of Karen Groom and the late Eleanor Thom. Frank was a patient and loving grandfather to Allison and Brittany and brother to Alan (Shirley). He will be missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Frank grew up in Sudbury when the mining industry was thriving and enjoyed his mother’s delicious recipes, especially her infamous chocolate fudge. He worked at Lane and Lane as a surveyor and draftsman, and took great pride in his work— with an unparalleled attention to detail. In his retirement, he embraced the most challenging puzzles, enjoyed catching up with friends for coffee at “Hortons”, reading Jeffrey Archer novels and keeping current on all sports. Frank was loved and cherished beyond measure by his family and friends. His quick wit and tendency to be ‘frank’ will be missed and fondly remembered. The family will be holding a private ceremony to celebrate his life. Donations welcome to St. Stephen's on the Hill United Church.
Arrangements entrusted to the Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home.
