How I met Lorena

I met Lorena at KeyNorth in Sudbury, we hung around the mall a lot and even played pool on the occasion. When we first start hanging around I thought it strange that she didn't drink or smoke, especially for a young native girl. I was very proud to tell my family and friends that I had a nish friend who didn't smoke or drink. After we were done at KeyNorth we kinda drifted apart, and bout 4 years ago I left one of my business cards with one of her co-workers in Ottawa and she recognized the name and she called me. I was so surprised and happy cause I always wondered what had happend to her. We made plans to go on trip together and what trip it was. We went to Seneca NY, because her cousin Shelley worked at the casino and got us a discount on the room. We were both just amazed at how beautiful the room was and she told me "Look at us two Rez chicks in a fancy hotel". It's a trip that I will cherish for the rest of my life. I got word that she was in the hospital and wondered if I should go and visit her, I decided to go only to find a note on her door saying that she wasn't seeing any visitors. I was disappointed so I asked the nurse to give her the flowers and card and to tell her that her friend Darlene from Quebec was here to see her. The nurse seeing that I came from such a long way went to ask Lorena If it was ok for me to visit and I was so happy when she said yes. I visit with her bout 2 hours but kinda felt bad because she was tired and drifting off to sleep, so I told her Lorena have a sleep I will be here when you get up, so she did sleep holding my hand (making sure I didn't sneak away). We talked, reminisced about the good old days, our trips, our work and families. After she had something to eat she fell asleep again and I left. Today I think bout that visit and I am glad that I decided to go and visit her because I knew that was going to be last time I would ever see my friend again. I am going to miss you my friend, Rest in Peace
