Obituary for
Rosaria Maria "Rosetti" Cappelletti
MARIA ROSARIA CAPPELLETTI (NEE ROSETTI)
AGE 83
BORN APRIL 12, 1933 GUBBIO PERUGIA ITALY
PASSED WEDNESDAY MAY 25, 2016
AT HEALTH SCIENCES NORTH, SUDBURY ONTARIO
It is with the greatest of pain that we announce the passing of our Mother Rosa, known to family and friends as “Nonna Rosa”. In Loving memory of our dear mother, Maria Rosaria Cappelletti, 83 years who passed away May 25, 2016 courageously battling cancer at Health Sciences North with her loving daughter by her side. She is predeceased by her husband Nello, 2013, by her parents Roberto and Leda Rosetti, and by her brothers Dino, Franco and Mario Rosetti. Sadly, she lost the love of her life, her granddaughter Melody Cappelletti-Cotnam in 2000. She is survived by her loving children Roberta Cotnam (Don) and Roberto Cappelletti. She named her children after the father she adored, Roberto Rosetti.
She was born in Gubbio, Perugia, Italy, and as a child she endured the Second World War. She managed her father’s department store in her 20s, married, and immigrated to Canada in 1962. Rosa committed her life to prayer, her children and her home sanctuary.
Nonna Rosa was a private woman who lived modestly, and was cheated with the sudden death of her only grandchild in 2000. In memory of her granddaughter’s life an annual speech and award was presented to the recipient of the Melody Cappelletti-Cotnam Memorial Award by Rosa at Sudbury Secondary School, which continued to be a special moment for her. In life Rosa was happy preparing meals and dining out. At home she read Italian periodicals and shared the love of classical music and opera and often spent hours in prayer. Between the ages of 7 and 9 Rosa studied classical piano and sadly, due to hearing loss caused by scarlet fever could not continue playing the instrument. Despite the hearing loss, she was an extraordinary student and learned to speak and read English.
At 18 years of age, she had appeared in a film documentary in Italy about a festival named “La Festa Dei Ceri”. Rosa will be sadly missed by her best friends, Adelina Damiani, Carmela Farneti, and Ann Mutuchky.
The family thanks Dr. Killian deBlacam who did everything possible to save our mother’s life, everyone at Health Sciences North, CCAC, staff at Bayshore, family, friends and co-workers who supported us during this difficult time.
At Rosa’s request, there will be no visitation. A Funeral Mass will be held at The Church of Christ the King, 30 Beech Street, Sudbury, On Saturday, May 28, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. Interment in the Civic Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations to the Melody Cappelletti-Cotnam Memorial Award held at Sudbury Secondary School would be greatly appreciated.
