Obituary for Pietro Antonio Adavastro

Pietro Antonio Adavastro
Obituary
Peter (Pietro Antonio) Adavastro (February 7th, 1928 - April 15th, 2018)

He was born and grew up in Camini, Calabria, Italy, where he started and performed in local theatre with his closest friends. He was always on the move. He entered bicycle races, hunted small game, swam in every water and loved to play practical jokes. He loved life. But his biggest passion was music. He played every instrument his hands could hold, he wrote his own songs and poetry. His voice was smooth like velvet and much time was spent serenading family and friends. More than this, he was honest, passionate, and full of integrity, charm and charisma.
He came to Canada when he was 24 and first worked in construction in Kimberly, BC, and made his way to Sudbury to answer INCO’s call for workers. He was hired 1957 and they settled in Gatchell. He worked at the SO2 plant and No. 9 Flash Furnace. During those 36 years he was known for his impeccable work ethic, admired for lightness of heart, and he was loved for cooking for his crew-members who called him ‘Pancho’. He retired with a perfect attendance record and the company recognized this with an award. His talent for gardening was endless his affection for community and people showed in his love of team sport. A legacy Habs fan, he watched every game. He played Bocce at the Caruso and Delki Dozzi Park, curling, and bowling, all for which he has numerous trophies.

He married his sweetheart Elsa (Arcadi) in 1961 and has four children: Mary, John (Angie), Irene, and Alex (Stephanie). He is the best Nonno ever to Justin (Kya-Lynn), Jasmine (Aaron), Skye, Jake, Lyla, and Bianca and his great-grandson Kain Peter. All close by in Sudbury. He is also well-loved by many nieces and nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law, cousins and an abundance of friends. He is pre-deceased by his parents Cosimo Adavastro and Maria Bombardieri, his dear brothers Giuseppe (Esterina) and Francesco (Lina), and his sweet sisters Assunta Micelotta (Nicola) and Anna Rosa.

Special thanks to all of dad’s caretakers and support workers at home, Health Sciences North, and Pioneer Manor.
Never has a man as true as you graced our world. Your beauty and elegance shines in every one of us, and we’re all better for having known you. You are loved and you will be missed and never forgotten.
