Obituary for Rita G.H. Hinderika Binder (Knigge)

Rita G.H. Hinderika Binder (Knigge)
Binder, Rita G.H.
In loving memory of Rita G.H. Binder, 93 years, who passed away June 26th, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Villa, Sudbury.
Beloved wife of Otto Binder and cherished mother of Ellie Mallette (husband Jack), Julie Binder-Nelson (predeceased), Terry Binder (wife Katherine) and Otto Binder Jr. Loving grandmother of Lauren, Jenna, Hillary, Victoria, Karl, Kay-Lynn (predeceased), Laurenna, Brittany, Nathaniel, Jon, Mitchell and Justin. Dear sister of Albert Knigge (wife Miep), Pie Knigg-Blum, Fenny Groen (predeceased) and Aaf Vilhaber (predeceased).
Rita was born in The Netherlands, coming to Canada at the age of 21 years. After raising five children, she was determined to fulfill her lifelong ambition and return to school. She graduated with an M.A. in Education, and taught French for what is now the Rainbow District School Board. She was an effective and much loved teacher, fluent in four languages. Her impact was evidenced by the warm correspondence from former students throughout her life. Rita was a prolific writer both in journal and poetic forms. In reading her accounts of daily life and insights, her values and character shone through with her innate sense of joyfulness, her ever-present love of family and her strong faith in God.
Rita was a loving, inspiring and supportive wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She always encouraged her family and others, to fulfill their personal and educational goals. Rita radiated a positive outlook on life, even though a host of debilitating diseases afflicted her. Even in her final months she asked daily about immediate and extended family members. Her youthful laugh and manner of speaking, her genuine sincerity, and her strong Christian values were uplifting to all who knew her. Everyone who was fortunate enough to know Rita will remember her with great fondness as the truly special, compassionate and multi-talented woman she was.

Happy and Free
Don’t cry for me,
I’m happy and free.
For the Lord has provided
A place for me.
I enjoy with my Loved-ones
This heavenly place.
And I wait patiently
For others to come,
To join in the chorus
United in Song.
Hence, crying for me
Is a waste of time.
To be with the Savior
Is ever sublime
Rita Binder, July 2, 2013
